After reviewing almost 800 submissions in its Robocall Challenge, the FTC has announced three winners in its competition for new solutions to eliminate illegal prerecorded calls to contact consumers.

The FTC announced its Robocall Challenge last October with the goal of drawing attention to the challenge of enforcing federal laws against using prerecorded calls. Robocallers frequently use Caller ID spoofing tactics, making them difficult to track down. Meanwhile, the FTC says it receives approximately 200,000 complaints every month related to robocalls alone.

Serdar Danis and Aaron Foss will split the $50,000 prize money for their proposals. Two engineers from Google, Daniel Klein and Dean Jackson, won the Robocall Challenge Technology Achievement Award for their solution. You can read more about the specifics of each proposal here.

The FTC stressed that in selecting these solutions, it wasn’t endorsing them and that public-private cooperation would result in the most effective solution to eliminating illegal robocalls.
